Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "John Burger, Rochester."
This is the mark of John Burger who founded the family's pottery in Rochester, NY under this stamp and ran it from 1854-1867 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Freehand Capacity Number "2" Incorporated in a Leafy Plant Decoration. The plant was created with a slip cup using bright and shiny cobalt. It sports three leaves accented with fine lines. Stands 11 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Four small chips on the lid-seating ring (1/8" to 3/8"), and some scattered light staining. No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A surface 2" drying line inside in the making.
