Item 12462
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this suberb 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Wax Sealer that reads, "From James Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Tooled Grooved Rim for the Hot Wax Sealant, Rounded Sides, and Four Bold Stripes at the Top and One at the Bottom Framing the Company Advertising. The stenciling is complete and crisp, and the darker cobalt forms a pleasing contrast with the light gray glaze. Stands 8 1/4" tall.
It is hard to find this smaller size wax sealer by this maker, especially with this much decoration.
Excellent Condition. A half-dozen pinhead-size nibbles on the inner rim and a 1/4" flake on top of the rim. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
