Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 3 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "J. F.  Brayton & Co., Utica."

 

This is the work of Jonathan Brayton, son of George Brayton who worked his father's pottery from 1833 to 1837 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 69).  

 

This beauty features an Early Date, Large Size, Ovoid Form, Tapered Spout, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip in Dark Cobalt.  The tulip sports 6 leaves and a blossom with 6 petals.  Stands 14 3/4" tall. 

 

Very Good Condition.  A 1/4" chip under the rim, a 1/2" chip on the underside at the edge, and some staining from use.  No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
