Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Thistle Decoration in Brilliant Cobalt! Two thistles drawn in detail with a slip cup leap from a Plethora of Leaves. A wonderful examples of this decoration. Stands 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. A narrow 1/2" chip on the bottom edge and some light staining near the bottom. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
