Item 11405

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."

This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).

This beauty features a Larger 3 Gallon Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Pheasant Perched on a Stump Decoration.  The decoration is expertly drawn with the pheasant looking over his shoulder, sporting long tail feathers.  The stump has a lot of character and some ground cover.  Strong and shiny cobalt in the making.  Stands 13" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A 1/4" chip and minor nibbles on the inner lid seating ring, and a tiny stain by the stump.  That's it!  No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or stains.  A horizontal surface drying/firing line near the base on the left side in the making (closeup).
