Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "J. Burger, Jr., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the work of John Burger, Jr. who ran the pottery in Rochester from 1880-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, a Freehand Capacity Number "3", and a Daisy Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral has three leaves, two of which are accented with stripes, and a blossom with ten petals with accents surrounding a swirl center. Measures 10" tall and 11" wide across the top.
Good Condition. A 1/4" flake on the rim in the back, a 1" hairline in the rim above the right handle as shown, a faint 4" vertical surface craze line below that handle, and a 3" hairline from the rim behind the left handle. No inner rim or base chips, cracks, or restoration.
