Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "J. Burger, Jr., Rochester, N.Y."

 

This is the work of John Burger, Jr. who ran the pottery in Rochester from 1880-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).

 

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Large Tulip created with a Slip Cup Using Gorgeous Cobalt.  The tulip has 4 leaves with accents and a blossom with 7 petals with many accented.  Measures 11 1/4" tall and 12 1/4" wide across the top.  

 

 A much bolder decoration that typical at this time in the Burger pottery production tha tharks back to the time of John Burger.

 

Very Good Condition.  A fine 1" hairline on the left side at the bottom that goes under 3" and is not visible inside (closeup 1).  Scattered stains.  No chips, cracks, or restoration.  Two drying lines below the tulip in the making and glazed over (closeup 2).
