Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Burger, Jr., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the work of John Burger, Jr. who ran the pottery in Rochester from 1880-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports a Larger Size, the Oval Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, a Freehand Capacity Number, and a Large Flower with Four Leaves and a Blossom with 13 Petals. All the decoration as created with a slip cup and accented with lines to resemble 3-D. Stands 15 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A flat 1/2" chip on top of the spout toward the back, and two narrow chips on the underside at the edge (1/2", 3/4"). That's it! No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A partial stone ping by the handle in the making. Exceptionally clean.
