Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Uncommon 3 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "I. H. Wands, Olean, N.Y."
This is the work of Isaac H. Wands who build the pottery in Olean in 1852 and ran it until 1869. His works are not commonly seen (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 73).
This example comes from an upstairs bedroom in a farmhouse in Wellsville, N.Y.
This beauty features a Larger Size, Tall and Narrow Form, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Gorgeous Tulip Decoration Created with a Slip Cup. The tulip has 4 leaves and a blossom with 10 petals. The cobalt is dark and glossy like we like it! Stands 16 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A narrow 1" chip inside the spout, and a 5 1/2" vertical hairline on the front bottom that wraps under 5 1/2" (closeup). No base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
