Item 6319
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped for "W. D. Hill, Hill's Hotel."
The decortion indicates that this jug is the work of Samuel Brady and John J. Ryan who ran their pottery in Ellenville, N.Y. from 1878-1897 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 66).
This beauty features the Merchant Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Bird on a Branch Decoration that was the trademark of the Brady and Ryan pottery. What is most unusual is that the proprietor of a hotel would commission jugs. Perhaps he had a general store or bar attached to his establishment. Stands 13" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip on the bottom of the right side in a kiln furniture mark. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A couple stone pings in the making.
