Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 3 Gallon Stoneware Crock with Parrot on a Plume made and stamped by "F. B. Norton & Co., Worcester, Mass."
This is the mark of Frank Norton and Frederick Hancock who operated the pottery in Worcester using this stamp from 1858-1877 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 52-53).
This beauty features a Semi-Squared Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Large Parrot on a Plume Decoration. This was one of Norton's signature decorations and is typically found with gorgeous cobalt like this crock exhibits. This larger size crock allows the parrot to be 8" tall from head to tail! The plume matches the parrot in large size. Measures 10 1/4" tall and 11 1/4" across the top.
Excellent Condition. As fine 1" hairline confined to the rim in the back (closeup). Otherwise as made.
