Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT ."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 43-44).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Stylized Floral in Bright Cobalt Executed with a Slip Cup. It is a larger floral than is typically found on a one gallon jug by this maker. Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1/2" chip on the right side of the spout, a ping to the right of the decoration, and wear around the base from use. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
