Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon Blue and White Stoneware Rolling Pin that reads, "Denhard Co., Housefurnishers, 225-227-229-231 West Market Str." 

 

Denhard was a furniture store located in Louisville, Kentucky in the early 20th century. 

 

These rolling pins were made by the Brush-McCoy Pottery in Roseville, Ohio in the 1920's. They appear in the 1925 catalogue (Martha and Steve Sanford, The Guide to Brush-McCoy Pottery, p. 29).

 

These rolling pins were made to keep the business before the eyes of the customer with hopes of future business. For discussion and examples, see Terry Taylor and Terry & Kay Lowrance, Collector's Encylcoopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware, pp. 140-145.

 

This beauty features the Wildflower Pattern with a Pinstripe on Each End, Two Wildflower Decorations Beside the Stripes, and the Advertising Stenciled Twice in the Middle. Measures 7 1/2" long without the handles and 2 3/4" wide.  Comes with the original wooden handles. 

 

Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. 

 

This rolling pin is at the top of its game:  from Kentucky, vivid blue and white coloration, unusual subject matter, and superb condition.
