Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."
This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 55-58).
Thus beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Freehand Chrysanthemum executed with strong cobalt. The flower has 6 leaves, two buds, and a blossom with 10 petals. Stands 13 7/8" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1/4" chip inside the spout, minor glaze wear in the middle, a faint line through the handle (closeup), and a couple of minor stains from use. No outer spout or base chips, body hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
