Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."
This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania using this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 55-58).
Thus beauty features an Applied Handle with Cobalt Accent at the Terminals, Pottery Stamp and Capacity Number with Cobalt Wash, and Three Brushed Cobalt Chrysanthum Blossoms on a Leafy Stem. Bright and shiny cobalt on a light gray glaze. Comes with an old carved stopper. Stands 16" tall.
Excellent Condition. A narrow 1 1/2" chip on the bottom edge. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A stone ping between two blossoms and two recesses on each side in the making.
