    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Ovoid Jar whose decoration indicates that it was made by Asa Smith, his son Asa, and Howard Hobart who worked in Norwalk, Connecticut from about 1849 to the early 1860's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 58-60).

     

    This beauty features a Large Size, Ovoid Form, Tall Neck, Inscribed Shoulder, Applied Handles, and a Squiggle Drape at the Shoulder with a Sideways Tulip Below.  Stands 13 1/2" tall.

     

    Excellent Condition.  Four minor flakes at the base (1/4" each).  That's it!  No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Stone ping below the rim on the front to the right in the making. 

     

    Remarkable condition for such an old and large open jar!
