    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Uncommon 8" Staffordshire Child's Plate with Negro Slave Theme.  

     

    Dating around 1830, this beauty features a Fancy Embossed Rim with a Center Transfer Print of Two Small Children Fulfilling the Prayers of a begging Negro Slave.  The series was called "Flowers That Never Fade" with each plate highlighting a moral virtue.  This one is "Piety" and reads, "While God regards the wise & fair, The noble & the brave, He listens to the beggar's prayer, & the poor Negro slave." 

     

    Excellent Condition.  Two adjacent 1/8" glaze flakes on the edge (closeup).  Otherwise as made.
