Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar whose form and decoration indicate that it was made by David Clark of Cornwall, Orange County, New York.
David Clark ran his pottery in Cornwall, New York at least by 1811. He is the father of the more famous Nathan Clark of Athens, N.Y. (William C, Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900, pp. 125-129).
Circa 1815, this beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Tooled Squared Rim, Applied Handles Set High, and Brushed Cobalt Leaf on Each Side. Measures 11" tall and 8" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A 1/4" flake above one handle, chips and two 2" hairlines around the footer, and several chips on the underside. No cracks, stains, or restoration.
