Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is the Early 3 Gallon Stoneware Tall Jar made and stamped by "C. Crolius, New York."
This jug is the work of Clarkson Crolius Senior who made pottery in New York City from 1800 to 1838 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 62).
Circa 1820, this beauty features a Unusual Tall and Narrow Form, Rounded Rim, Applied Handles with Blue Striping (1 open and 1 closed), the Pottery Stamp, and a Brushed Cobalt Garland on Each Side. Stands 14 1/2" tall
Excellent Condition. A 3/4" chip on the right side near the bottom that is partially in the making. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Drying lines around the terminals of the right handle in the making.
An early and historic piece of New York history.
