Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "Burger & Co., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the mark of John Burger, Jr. who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1877-1879 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and the Freehand Capacity Number "2" Framed by a Large Wreath with Bottom Bow. The decoration is executed with a slip cup in bright cobalt. Measures 9 1/2" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. On the left side: some staining, a narrow 1/2" chip on the left handle, and surface craze line below that does not go through (closeup). No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A 1/2" stoneping inside in the making.
