Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "Burger & Co., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the mark of John Burger, Jr. who ran the family's pottery under this stamp from 1877-1879 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty sports a Large Flared Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, a Freehand Capacity Number "2" Framed by a Wreath with Bottom Bow. The decoration is executed with a slip cup in bright cobalt. Stands 11 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A couple minor nibbles inside the rim (1/8", 3/16") a 1/4" chip on left handle, and scattered light staining on the back. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
