Item 11238
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this "bestest" 1 Gallon Decorated Jug stamped "Cortland."
The decoration indicates that this is the work of Madison Woodruff who ran the pottery in Cortland, New York from 1849-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Marvelous Brushed Cobalt Pair of "Flying Tulips." Bright Cobalt too! Stands 10 3/4" tall.
I have never seen this particular decoration on Woodruff stoneware. When I saw it across the way at a recent show, I only sent 4 people to the hospital that stood inbetween! 😮
Excellent Condition. An 1/8" flake and 3/8" chip on the underside at the edge. Otherwise, as made.
