Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made in and stamped "Albany."
This simple stamp is that of Eleazer Orcutt and his sons, Charles and Edwin of Albany. Eleazer founded the pottery in 1853 and it remained in the family until 1862 (William Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900, 2nd ed., pp 163-64).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp, Cobalt Capacity Number, and a Special Floral Decoration. The floral consists of two open leaves from which a curvy stem emerges to hold a blossom with a swirly center surrounded by dotted circular petals. Measures 8 1/4" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Four chips inside the rim (1/4" to 3/4"- closeups), a 2" hairline below the right handle (closeup), and light staining from use. No outer rim or base chips, cracks, or restoration.
