Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 4 Gallon Stoneware Merchant Jar made and stamped for "C. F. Worthen, Peabody, Mass."
The decoration indicates that it was made in Fort Edward, New York around 1880.
This beauty features a Large Size, Merchant Advertising Stamped on the Shoulder and Washed in Cobalt, and a Very Large Double Bird Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup. Each bird measures 8" from beak to tip of the tail. Beautiful cobalt on a light clay background. Stands 14 1/2" tall.
Comes with an Albany Slip lid.
Excellent Condition. A single 3/4" surface ping line inside the rim (closeup) and faint traces of water glass staining. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A couple pinhead-size nibbles on the top edge of the lid.
