Item 12294
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful and early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar. The distinctive shape and decoration indicate that this is the work of Abial Price of Middletown Point, New Jersey who ran his pottery from 1840 to his death in 1852 (M. Lelyn Branin, The Early Makers of Handcrafted Earthenware and Stoneware in Central and Southern New Jersey , p. 114-115, 194-195).
This beauty features an Ovoid Form, Tall Neck with Squared Rim, Thick Applied Handles with Cobalt at the Terminals, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Tulip. The tulip has three leaves and a blossom with three petals-- all in bright cobalt blue. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
If you like the ovoid form and large floral decorations in bright cobalt, here you go!
Excellent Condition. A 3/4" chip outside the rim above the left handle and a narrow 1 1/4" chip on the bottom edge of the right side. That's it! No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
