Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 1 Gallon Stoneware Bowl made by "Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, Greene Co., PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features a Tooled Rim with a Groove for Tying a Waxed Paper or Cloth Over the Top, and a Top and Bottom Stripe that Frame Four Lines of Company Advertising. Measures 5 1/2" tall and 9" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. Minor wear inside at the bottom and on the top of the rim. Otherwise, as made. The small chip on the rim in the front is in the making and glazed over.
