Item 12301
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 1/2 Gallon Decorated Pitcher.
The flower with the circle between the stem and petals makes a probable attribution to Mauldine Perine or his former associate, William Linton of Baltimore, Maryland. Perine and sons worked in stoneware from approximately 1827 to after 1900, and Linton made stoneware from 1845 to 1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 98).
Circa 1850, this beauty features a Small 1/2 Gallon Size, Tooled Rounded Rim and Spout, Tall Neck, Tooled Shoulder, Bulbous Body, Tooled Footer, Applied Handle, and Superior Cobalt Decoration. Four comma vines drape the rim and spout, while a vine with four leaves and six flower blossoms wraps around the middle. Additional cobalt at the handle terminals. Skillful artistry and gorgeous cobalt on a light gray glaze for maximum contrast. Did I not say "superb"? Stands 8 3/4" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Slight kiln touch in the lower front flower in the making.
