Item 12760

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar that reads, "From W. D. Cooper, No. 7 Diamond, Pittsburgh." Cooper was a grocery merchant in Pittsburgh, PA.

This jar was made in Greensboro, Pennsylvania by James Hamilton Circa 1880.

This beauty features a Tooled Rim, Three Top Cobalt Stripes and Two Bottom, and 5 Lines of Advertising in an Oval. The light gray glaze and plenty of shiny cobalt really creates a pleasing visual! Stands 10" tall.

Very Good Condition. An inch square chip on the back bottom.  No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.

A very unusual feature of this jar is that 5 short metal rods were fired into the base where you see the five dots on the outside and glaze pops inside. I have no idea what was once attached to the outside or inside of the bottom but has since been removed.
