Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Jar from Morgantown, West Virginia.
It is attributed to David Thompson who ran the family pottery in Morgantown from 1853-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 98-99).
This beauty features a Tooled Rim and Shoulder, Extruded Handles with Cobalt Accent, and Freehand Decoration Top to Bottom. Three stripes divide the front into three panels. The top panel hosts vining, the middle one showcases vining with a fuchsia blossom, and the bottom one presents a freehand capacity number flanked by a fuchsia blossom on the left and a leaf on the right. Stands 14 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Five chips inside the rim (1/4" to 1"), and five outside (1/4" to 3/4"). No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
