Item 13241
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 3 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "T. Reed."
This is the stamp of Thomas Reed who worked in Newport, Tuscarawas County, Ohio and later in Newcomerstown, Ohio in the 1850's-1880's (Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, p. 107).
Dating around 1850, this beauty sports an Early Ovoid Form, Canted Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent on the Front End, Pottery Stamp, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip with a Wavy Stem with Four Leaves and a Blossom Containing the Pottery Stamp. Stands 13 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Superficial chipping on the back of the right handle, a 3/4" chip and 2" hairline on the bottom back edge (closeup). That's it! No rim chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
This is the finest example of this maker's tulip decorated jar that I have ever had the privilege to sell.
