  • Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "P. Rodenbaugh, Summit Co., O."

     

    This is the mark of Peter Rodenbaugh who made pottery in Akron, Ohio in the late 19th century (See F. Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, pp. 82-83).

     

    Made around 1850, this crock has the Pottery Stamp and a Cobalt Leaf in Bright Cobalt Blue.  Additional cobalt on the front side of the handle terminals.  Measures 13 1/4" tall and 9 3/4" wide across the top.

     

    Very Good Condition.  Some glaze loss inside at the bottom.  A 3/8" chip and minor nibbles inside the rim, three chips outside the rim (1/4" to 3/4"), some small and scattered glaze flakes near the bottom, and a tight line across the bottom.  No stains or restoration.  Several chips around the rim and the face of the left handle are in the making and glazed over.
