Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "T. Reed."
This is the stamp of Thomas Reed who worked in Newport, Ohio in Tuscarawas County, and later in Newcomerstown, Ohio in the 1850's-1880's (Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, p. 107).
Dating around 1860, this beauty sports the Pottery Stamp within a Fancy Border with Cobalt Wash and another Stamp of a Tree Above. Cobalt accent on the front of the handles. Measures 13 1/2" tall and 10 1/2" across the top.
Very Good Condition. Glaze wear inside, five chips inside the rim (1/4" to 1 1/4"). No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Some short surface-only firing or age lines at the base.
