Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Sweet 3 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "T. P. Mead, Summit Co., Ohio."
This is the mark of Truman P. Mead, son of Ira Mead, Sr., who made pottery in Summit and Portage Counties in the 1840's (F. Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware , p. 30).
Dating to the 1840's, this beauty features a Larger Size, Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Leaf Decoration. Stands 14 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 3/8" flake on the left side of the spout, and a 1/4" hole below the pottery stamp as shown in the closeup. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
