Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 2 Gallon Stoneware Decorated Jar.
The jar's decoration make it easy to attribute to David Parr who made stoneware in Baltimore, Maryland from 1815 to 1855 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 98).
Circa 1850, this beauty features a Tooled Square Rim with Groove for Ease of Tying a Cover Over the Top, and Two Garlands of Four Brushed Cobalt Sideways Tulips. Additional comma vining above the top garland between each tulip. The decorator really carried away and created a special piece flowing with cobalt. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Traces of water glass staining inside, two contiguous 1/4" flakes inside the rim, and a 1" chip on the bottom edge. No outer rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A 1/2" chip on the middle of one side from the kiln.
