Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Stoneware Canning Jar made for "Alp Rose Strawberry Preserves, John Sexton & Co., Chicago, ILL." 

 

The canner was made by Weir of Monmouth, Illinois.  The lid is so marked and it is one of the forms that Weir made while in operation from 1899 to 1906 (Jim Martin and Bette Cooper, Monmouth-Western Stoneware, pp. 28-33).  

 

This beauty features the Original Paper Label a Woman Named Rose in the Alpine Mountains.  Stands 9 1/4" to the top of the lid. 

 

Excellent Condition.  A narrow 1 1/4" shallow chip inside the rim, a 1/4" chip outside the rim, and a 1/4" chip above one opening for the handle.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Some loss to the edges of the label.  The lid is as made.
