Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Jar that reads, "From J. Littell."
 
This is the work of Johnston Littell, a former barkeep from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He moved to Greensboro, Pennsylvania where he made pottery in the mid-1860's to early 1870's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 158).  
 
This beauty features a Tooled Rim with Groove for Tying a Cover the Top, and the Pottery Advertising Stenciled in Large Letters on a Diagonal on the Front.  Stands 7 3/4" tall.
 
Exceptional Condition.  As  made.  No damage of any kind.
