Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "Stedman & Seymour, New-Haven ."
 
This is the mark of Absalom Stedman who worked in New Haven from 1825 to 1833, and for a brief period with one of the members of the Seymour family of potters (For further information about these potters, see William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 57-58).
 
Dating around 1830, this beauty features an Early Ovoid Form with Rounded Spout, Tooled Shoulder, Cobalt Accent at the Handle Terminals, and Impressed Pottery Stamp Washed in Cobalt.   Stands 12 1/2" tall. 
 
Excellent Condition.  Two chips on the body (1/4", 1/2"), and six chips around the footer (1/4" to 1/2").  No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A faint firing craze line to the right of the spout in the making.  A very clean example.
