    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Gorgeoous 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by the "Somerset Potters Works."

     

    This pottery was located in Somerset, Massachusetts and run by Leonard and Benjamin G. Chace from 1847-1882 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 51).

     

    This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Large Double Floral Executed with a Slip Cup in Bold Cobalt.  The floral has ground cover, a leafy and dotted stem, and two blossoms with four petals accented by dots and dashes.  The cobalt is 11 out of 10!  Stands 12 3/4" tall.

     

    Excellent Condition.  Two 1/4" chips and a small surface ping (closeup) on the bottom edge.  That's it!  No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A narrow 1" groove to the left of the pottery stamp and a narrow vertical recess to the right of the decoration in the making.
