Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "Smith & Day, Norwalk." This is the mark of Asa Smith and his Cousin, Noah Day, who worked in Norwalk from 1843-1849 ( William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 58-60).
This beauty features an Early Ovoid Shape, Tall Neck, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accents at the Terminal, Pottery Stamp Washed in Cobalt and Surrounded by Brushed Cobalt Leaves. Measures 11 1/2" tall and 8" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition with Restoration. A minor 1/8" nibble inside the rim, a tiny 1" y-shaped hairline at the base that wraps under 1". Professional restoration for a 6" hairline from the rim down in front of the left handle and to the left of the decoration (closeup). No outer rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
