    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "S. L. Pewtress & Co., New Haven, Conn."

     

    This is the mark of Samuel L. Pewtress who operated the pottery at 71 Chatham Street in the Fairhaven district of New Haven from 1868 to at least 1887 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 58).

     

    Circa 1870, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp and a Bold and Bright Swirl Floral on the Front.  Stands 11 1/4" tall.  

     

    Very Good Condition.  A 1" chip on top of the spout on the right side (closeup), and a narrow 1/2" chip on the back at the bottom.  That's it!  No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
