Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this imposing 5 Gallon Jug made for "Rudd's, 3 Stores on Euclid Avenue: 234 Euclid Downtown, 5000 Euclid Willson, 10509 Euclid Fairmount.  The Chandler & Rudd Co., Cleveland Sixth City." .

 

This jug was made for George Chandler and William Rudd who ran three grocery stores on Euclid Avenue, Cleveland from around 1888 to 1894 when Chandler left the business because he did not want to sell liquor.  For a history of this store, see https://case.edu/ech/articles/c/chandler-rudd-co

 

The jug was made and stamped on the back at the bottom by the "Sherwood Bros., New Brighton, PA."

 

Dating around 1890, this beauty features a Two-Tone Glaze and the Company Advertising Stenciled on the Front.  Stands 19 3/4" tall.

 

Excellent Condition.  Other than some surface wear, it is as made.
