Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 1 Gallon Cream Pot made and stamped "Paul Cushman Stoneware Factory 1809."
Paul Cushman worked in Albany from 1807-1833 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 67). For detailed discussion, see Paul Cushman: The Work and World of an Early 19th Century Albany Potter.
This beauty features a Small Pot Form, Tooled Shoulder with Coggled Floral Below Going all the way Around, Applied Handles, the Coggled Potter's Name and Date in Large Letters on the Body, and Flared Footer. Measures 7 1/2" tall and 7 3/4" wide across the top.
Good Condition. A 1 1/2" chip inside at the bottom, two chips outside the rim (1/4", 3/8"), a 3" hairline from the rim in front of the left handle (closeup), chips around the footer, a 1/4" hole in the bottom center, and some staining from use. No inner rim chips, cracks, or restoration.
