Item 12234

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "John Burger, Rochester."

This is the mark of John Burger who founded the family's pottery under this stamp and ran it from 1854-1867 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 74).

This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, a Freehand Capacity Number "2", and a Large Open Daisy Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup in Strong Cobalt.  Intricate and exceptionally nice artwork!  Five leaves support a full blossom with 20 petals and dotted center.  I don't think I have ever counted 20 petals on a Burger flower blossom before!  Comes with the right period and form-fitting lid.  Stands 11 3/4" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A 3/4" chip on the inner lid-seating ring as shown.  That's it!  No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  The lid is as made.
