    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Jug Made and Stamped by "J. D. Craven".

     

    This is the work Jacob Dorris Craven (1827-1895) who worked with his family in Randolph County, North Carolina, and trained many southern potters including Manly Owen, Bryant Owens, and John Wesley Teague. For more information, see Quincy Scarborough, The Craven Family of Southern Folk Potters, pp. 38-47.

     

    This beauty features a Tooled Spout and Shoulder, Strap Handle, and the Pottery's Stamp to the Right of the Handle.  Stands 9 1/2" tall.

     

    Very Good Condition. A filled and colored shallow 3/8" chip on the back of the spout (closeup), a couple minor 3/16" nibbles on the underside near the edge, and some light staining from use.  No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
