    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "J. D. Craven".

     

    This is the work Jacob Dorris Craven (1827-1895) who worked with his family in Randolph County, North Carolina, and trained many southern potters including Manly Owen, Bryant Owens, and John Wesley Teague. For more information, see Quincy Scarborough, The Craven Family of Southern Folk Potters, pp. 38-47.

     

    This beauty features a Tooled and Ribbed Rim, Wide Applied Handles, Pottery Stampe under one Handle, and a Green Alkaline Graze.  Measure 7" tall and 8" wide across the top. 

     

    Very Good Condition.  A 1/" chip under one handle and a chipping under one half of the other.  Minor nibbles around the base.  No rim chips, hairllines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
