    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1/2 Gallon Jug Made and Stamped by "J. D. Craven".

     

    This is the work Jacob Dorris Craven (1827-1895) who worked with his family in Randolph County, North Carolina, and trained many southern potters including Manly Owen, Bryant Owens, and John Wesley Teague. (Quincy Scarborough, The Craven Family of Southern Folk Potters, pp. 38-47).

     

    This beauty features a "Bottle" Spout, Strap Handle, and the Pottery Stamp on the Front. Stands 10" tall.

     

    Very Good Condition.  A 1" chip on left side of the handle with a faint line across the top of the handle from it (closeup 1).  No spout or base chips, body hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A few surface horizontal drying or firing lines near the base of the left side and front in the making (closeup 2).
