Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug marked on the handle "HNL."
This is the mark of Henry Newton Long of Crawford County, Georgia. Long was one of many potters in Crawford County whose whiskey jugs were exported to Macon by wagon. In 1898, he is listed as one of the leading potters of the county. He ran the family pottery from 1895 to 1902. See John Burrison, Brothers in Clay: The Story of Georgia Folk Pottery, pp. 131-133, 141-144.
This beauty features a the Pottery Stamp on the Handle, Two Incised Bands at the Shoulder, and a Cocoa-colored Glaze. Stands 10 5/8" tall.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/8" chip on the handle and a 1" chip on the bottom in the back. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
