Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Butter Crock made by Hamilton and Jones, Agents, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, PA from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features a Deep Groove at the Rim for Tying a Cloth or Wax Paper over the Top, and a Fancy Stenciled Label with the Company Advertising Surrounding an Arch over a Floral and Accented with Leaves in the Top Corners. Crisp and complete stencil. Measure 8 1/2" tall and 9 1/2" wide across the top
Excellent Condition. A 2" hairline on the underside barely seen inside and for no reason lightly coated on the bottom to hide it (?). That's it! No chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
