Item 11102
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 3 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "G. Gill."
This is the mark of George Gill (1834-1891), a potter of Swan Township, Vinton County, Ohio (F. Robert Treichler, Migration of Stoneware Potters in North America, pp. 4-6).
Dating to the mid-19th century, this beauty features a Semi-Ovoid Form, Thick Tooled Rim, and the Pottery and Capacity Number Stamp. Mysterious hand-drawn initials T and X below the pottery stamp and under the glaze. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two small chips inside the rim (1/4", 1/2"), a chip outside the rim in the back (1/2"), and some modest surface wear from use. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
