Coming to you from Doc's Crocks, is this early 1/2 Gallon Ovoid Jug marked "BOSTON."

This beauty is readily attributed to Frederick Carpenter who worked in Charlestown, Massachusetts from 1804-1827 and made pieces marked "Boston" for that market.   The "BOSTON" in all capital letters and the ochre dip which he started using in 1804 indicate Carpenter's work (New research by Pete Schriber refining older research by William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 48-49).

This jug has all the indications of being Carpenter's work:  An Early Ovoid Form, Reeded Spout and Footer, Ochre Dip Top and Bottom, and "BOSTON" in all Capital Letters.  Bears the more uncommon 1/2 gallon size standing only 9 7/8" tall.

Very Good Condition.  Two chips on the back half of the spout (1/2", 3/4"), nibbles around the footer, and general aging.  A 1/2" chip and stone ping on the shoulder in the making.
